The proposed Jefferson County Court is approximately 30,285 GSF that rises two stories in height above grade.
The court houses three courtrooms with future plans for an additional court. All courtrooms have identical or mirrored “wells” with the ability to handle a fourteen person jury. Courtroom width and spectator spaces vary.
"The breakdown of scale was an attractive solution for integrating with the neighboring small-scale, single-family residential neighborhood. It is a modest project, but still identifiably civic. " ~ Jury comments
The small courtroom is 1,445 sq ft and accommodates up to 32 spectators. The mid-sized courtroom is 1,580 sq ft and accommodates up to 49 spectators. The large courtroom, programmed at 2,101 sq ft, will handle larger, high profile cases, and accommodates up to 100 spectators. The two north courtrooms are supported with full inmate delivery to each. The court floor holding area is sized to provide for on-time inmate delivery and not rely on travel time from sub-level holding areas up to the courtroom floor.
Court support functions such as jury deliberation rooms and judicial chambers are co-located on the court floors. The balance of the program areas are located on the first floor: Court Administration, HR, Court Operations, District Attorney, Victim Assistance, and Information Technology.
