Chicago Mobile Makers

Chicago Mobile Makers supports youth in their paths to careers in design.
Chicago Mobile Makers is a nonprofit organization that offers youth workshops encompassing design, architecture, digital fabrication, basic construction, and place-making in Chicago communities. In the last year they have been featured live on local news station WTTW, in Fast Company Magazine as a 2018 World Changing Idea, and have hosted workshops in schools, affordable housing complexes, and work spaces. They soon hope to mobilize with a mobile maker-space to reach as many Chicago communities as possible.
Expanding the variety of people entering the field will create more diverse workplaces, leading to more equitable decision making and design. This work is done not only to teach youth real-world design skills but to engage them in conversation about making positive change in their own communities.
